We join with those who mourn the loss of life,  the injuries, and the disruption of lives caused  by the attacks  against Washington,  DC, and  New York, N.Y.    All those effected -- the brave people who helped in rescue efforts, those involved in America's response to terror and in the war with Iraq-- are in our thoughts and prayers.

The Memorandum of Understanding Group (or MOU Group)'s mission is to provide a single, united voice from industry to the government on national security issues.

The agencies in the group consist of:
National Classification Management Society (NCMS)
American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS)
Industrial Security Working Group (ISWG)
Contractor Security Working Group (CSWG)
Aerospace Industry Association (AIA)
National Defense Industry Association (NDIA)

What does NCMS's membership in this group mean to you?

As a member of NCMS, or of any of the MOU Groups, you get first-hand information, often before the masses do, and you have a direct conduit to the Security Policy Advisory Board with industry's concerns and suggestions.

During the fall of 2000, some of the MOU Group's initiatives included:

There is an effort underway that every contractor who utilizes a NASA computer system must be the subject of a favorable National Agency Check (NAC), SF 85P, Position of Trust.  While this appears to be NASA only, the Air Force will be imposing similar requirements on AF systems.  You may start seeing this requirement in your contracts or other authorizing documents.

Randoim inspections within the National Capital Region:  Specifically the Pentagon has imposed a requirement for andom inspections of ADPE media and hardware in and out of its facilities.  We highly rrecommend that all contractors traveling to the Pentagon and Washington DC area properly mark their media in the event they are chosen for random inspection.

Oral Attestations: The MOU is submitting a formal request to rescind the D/FAR requirement regarding oral attestations.  While this effort may not yield the desired outcome, the MOU is making industry's opinion very clear on where they stand with this issue.

The deadline for submitting periodic reinvestigations was extended through the end of the year.  Be sure to work with your Cognizant Security Agency.
