We join with those who mourn the loss of life, the injuries, and the disruption of lives caused by the attacks against Washington, DC, and New York, N.Y. All those effected -- the brave people who helped in rescue efforts, those involved in America's response to terror and in the war with Iraq-- are in our thoughts and prayers.

Chapter Chair Rockwell Science Center Thousand Oaks, CA I recently attended the NCMS Chapter Chair meeting held in Colorado Spring on December 3-4, 2000. There were a number of items discussed during this meeting. The Chapter Chairs, in conjunction with the Board of Directors, will be pursuing a number of things to benefit the membership. I have highlighted some of those items below: 1. A Security-related software database is being developed. This database will identify security-related software, especially used for sanitization. It is expected that this information bill be posted on the NCMS website. 2. The issue of membership was discussed. It is the consensus of the chapter chairs that the best way to increase membership is to ensure that the chapter meetings and e-mails provide information that is valuable to the members. Recruiting new FSOs is also important. Encourage your colleagues to join. 3. The NCMS Website is alive and well. John Waller is our website guru. A few new items were recently posted. An on-line forum/chat room will soon be introduced. This will allow members to discuss current issues or seek advice on topics that might be of interest to you. Bottom-line – Visit the Website. 4. A speaker’s list is currently posted on the Website. Joe Cotton will be updating this list. These speakers can be contacted to speak at a chapter meeting or seminar. Please contact me if you have any speakers that you would like to add to this list. 5. NCMS is considering a Professional Certification Program for the members. For members under DSS oversight, a certification program would be developed with the following general characteristics: one broad-based certification at the intermediate skill level, two-one year programs, administrative costs born by the applicant; accept DSS and other equivalent training. Some topics to be included in the certification are document control, physical security, personnel security, self-assessment/reviews, security education. The program will also include a number of elective topics. The specifics of the program are currently being developed. More information will be provided on these various topics, as they become available. |
