Or, how I spent my Spring, 2004. . . (click on thumbnails for larger images of the work in progress)

Welcome
to the foyer of this old house. . . with the "retreat" (more
later) off to the right and the living room fireplace to the left (note
boxes of laminate wood flooring stacked near front door). Meanwhile the
tile awaits grouting. And oh yes, the front door and sidelites have replace
the old double door setup of this old house.
|
Since our house trends in the north/south direction, I call this the "south hallway" (if it trended east/west, this would be the West Wing). The rear entrance from the back yard is to the right, the laundry is to the right, the lighted bays--with unfinished bases, are just beyond, then the "retreat" is to the next right and the north bathroom--(Sarah's Room), is the next left. Finally the front foyer (where I took the first picture--is at the end of the hallway. I'm standing in the family room--old garage area. |
The
new laundry room (Mary's room) and beyond it, the door to (David's room),
the trike storage area--which has the old 16 foot wide garage door, since
this was formerly the old attached garage.

A
glimpse from the south hallway of the "retreat" so-named because
the paint color is called Calming Retreat. The maid is cleaning up after
the wall painting that happened after the flooring was put in--the old
"concrete driveway" syndrome that Pat emailed me about.
|
Another
picture of the retreat, as seen from the foyer. The closet is one of the
two former closets when this room was part of the master bedroom. This
4 foot wide entry is another of a series of holes in the wall that I've
done to this old house. Another hole was created from the former other
closet area which became the entrance to the garage remodel. I'll have
to get a picture of the eight foot hole in the wall between the living
room and dining room sometime.
|
The
renovated kitchen, again affected by the "concrete driveway"
curse . . . The rest of the kitchen floor will be laminate, with two rows
of tile already installed at the new kitchen exit out to the backyard
(former location of the 'fridge). The far cabinets are in the area which
was once the 4x6 foot laundry area, which also served as the old exit
out to the back yard, which also served as the second entrance to the
"north bathroom", and when people were coming and going this
seemed to be the spot where we all met.

We've painted the kitchen and dining room "Amazon Moss" during the Memorial Day weekend |
and we added laminate flooring to both rooms along with the paint job. |
The family room (the cause of this whole remodel) was now the last to have laminate flooring added over the last weekend of June. |
More detail work into the summer . . .
