I first met
David on a quick tour of Anthropology during my interview.

I met with
him to find out just what work he actually did and he said why a little bit of
everything:
- moving furniture
- setting up computers
- loading software
- multitude of art work
- computer graphics
- during the rain, checked our dept
for leaks
- dept safety rep ‑ he wouldn't let me move our
emergency gathering place to the shoe store at Nordstroms
- made countless flyers
- multitude of mapping items
- assisted a large number of temporary
faculty
- photographer
- worked on books, his family has
been in books
- helped with every picnic, holiday event and also made sure
the wine was opened, breathing and good
- birthday smoothies
David has
always been quick with a smile, a friendly greeting and genuinely personable.
And when you bring a bike into the mix, he doesn't hold back. I got a Costco
bike a while ago and biked in from the Mesa. When David found out, he was all
over the bike, checking it out and he noticed that the handle bars were a bit
off and the seat height was right for my height and said we'd go over to the
bike shop and check it out. On the way there, I thanked him for using his break
to go there with me... He said no problem, I have to understand that going to
bike shop to him was like going to Nordstroms to me!
He delights
in his family and his triking has kept him young. I can't wait get postcards
from his adventures.
I just
wanted mention that there are times when I'd go to find David and his door
would be closed and he always left a sticky note so we'd know where he is...
here is a sampling before he signed his retirement papers... and after!
