We join with those who mourn the loss of life,  the injuries, and the disruption of lives caused  by the attacks  against Washington,  DC, and  New York, N.Y.    All those effected -- the brave people who helped in rescue efforts, those involved in America's response to terror and in the war with Iraq-- are in our thoughts and prayers.

by Bill Dunn, CPP
Santa Barbara Chapter

The following changes have taken place this year in the CPP Program:

1. Beginning January 1, 2000, candidates are no longer required to obtain an endorsement to the application for the examination.  They will be required to sign a statement affirming the following:

I certify that all information I have provided in this application, including any attachments, is accurate and complete to the best of my knowledge.  I understand that approval of my application is contingent upon the results of a reference and background review, and I hereby authorize the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS), the Professional Certification Board (PCB), and its agents to investigate the truthfulness and accuracy of all information I have provided.  I authorize ASIS, the PCB and its agents to discuss the results of such a review with all persons involved in the certification process.  I give consent for all contacted persons to provide information concerning me and/or my application, and I release such person from liability for providing such information to ASIS, the PCB and its agents.  I understand that any false or misleading statement, misrepresentation, or concealment or material omission of the information I have provided or failed to provide on my application and attachments may be grounds for rejection of my application, or if already certified, of the “Certification Protection Professional” designation.

2. The application/examination fee is $250.00 for non-ASIS taking the international examination and $325.00 for non-ASIS members taking the U.S. or Canadian computer based examination.

3. The recertification fee for the three-year term is now $60.00

Revised Recertification Schedule Available

As announced last fall, CPPs will use a new recertification schedule beginning January 1, 2000.  The schedule eliminates fractions, many activities have been given additional value, and several kinds of eligible activities have been added to those for which credit may be claimed.  Based on the new credit values, the total required for recertification every three years is 16.

Each CPP required to recertify in 2001 or 2002 will receive in late fall a print-out of all credits reported to date, with current values converted to new values.  All point conversions will be provided by the program staff; CPPs will not be asked to determine an activity’s new credit.

Any CPP with questions may contact Iris Carhuancho (icarhuancho@asisonline.org) or Daphane Philos (dphilos@asisonline.org) at the CPP office.
